Jack Berry™ Nigella Seeds
Nigella seeds are also known as black caraway or black cumin. The seeds come from an annual flowering plant native to a large region of the eastern Mediterranean, northern Africa, the Indian Subcontinent, and West Asia.
Nigella seeds have been rising in popularity lately, but they’ve actually been used for many thousands of years with evidence that they were used in Ancient Egypt.
Nigella seeds have a strong aroma and taste that has notes of onion, oregano, and black pepper. Some may taste a slight “nutty” flavour as well.
The seeds can be lightly toasted and then ground or used whole to add flavour to bread or curry dishes. Some people also eat the seeds raw or mix them with honey or water. They can also be added to oatmeal, smoothies or yogurt.
